Tip Tuesday: How To Stay Secure

I have a close friend on Skype and recently a RSPS he played was comprised by a group of hackers. This is really unfortunate for the RSPS, but what’s even more unfortunate was that he used the same email for the RSPS as he did for Facebook, email and a bunch of other accounts. What’s even worse is the server he was playing didn’t encrypt the passwords at all so he now was a target.  The hacker got into his email and from that he started to reset all kinds of passwords for different websites. A week later and he’s still clearing up the whole mess and had to get back a lot of his accounts.

This could of all been prevented if he would of used a separate email for RSPS. Sure the hacker would of got into his email for RSPS but it would of ended at that and his personal life wouldn’t of been sucked into it. A wise tip to everyone who plays a lot of servers is also to use separate passwords for each server you play as if the server gets compromised nothing else will be affected …

Always make sure you use a secure password that someone wouldn’t be able to guess. A free password generator provided by the popular anti virus company Norton can be found here. This will generate secure passwords for you that someone is very unlikely going to be able to guess.

Don’t include the following things in your password as if someone does get a hold if it your personal safety could be in danger.

  • Your credit card number
  • Street address
  • Social security numbers
  • License plate numbers
  • Schools you attend
